PlatformAoAcOverride: disabling Modern Standby (S0 low power idle) on Windows
Short answer
UpdatedModern Standby keeps a sleeping PC partly awake so it can sync mail and updates, like a phone. PlatformAoAcOverride set to 0 tells Windows not to use it, and the PC falls back to classic S3 sleep where the firmware supports that. In the registry it sets PlatformAoAcOverride to 0 under HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power.

What it does
Modern Standby keeps a sleeping PC partly awake so it can sync mail and updates, like a phone. PlatformAoAcOverride set to 0 tells Windows not to use it, and the PC falls back to classic S3 sleep where the firmware supports that.
In the app the switch is called "Disable Modern Standby (S0)", described there as: Disables S0 connected standby to prevent background wake/network during sessions (reboot).
When it helps, and when it hurts
When it helps
- Laptops that wake in a bag, run hot or lose battery while 'asleep'.
When it hurts
- If the firmware has no S3 sleep, the PC is left with no sleep state at all, only hibernate and shutdown.
- Microsoft does not support this override, and a Windows update can ignore it.
What it writes
Exactly what the switch changes, read from the app's source. Switching it off is what the app writes when you turn the tweak off again.
| Key and value | With the tweak | Switching it off |
|---|---|---|
| HKLMSYSTEM\ | 0 | Stays 0Switching it off leaves it. |

The same change by hand
You do not need the app for this one. These commands make the changes from the table above. Run them in a Command Prompt opened as administrator, and make a restore point first.
reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power" /v "PlatformAoAcOverride" /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /freg query "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power" /v "PlatformAoAcOverride"How to undo it
In the app: Yes
Switching it off sets a standard Windows value, which may not be exactly how you had it.
Switch the tweak off in Frozen Tweaks. The values in the table are left as they are, so set them by hand if you want the old behavior.
Changing several settings at once? The app's Make a restore point button, on every plan, makes a Windows restore point before you start.
Verdict
A fix for a specific laptop problem, not a gaming tweak. Check that sleep still works after the restart.
