# PlatformAoAcOverride: disabling Modern Standby (S0 low power idle) on Windows

**Short answer:** Modern Standby keeps a sleeping PC partly awake so it can sync mail and updates, like a phone. PlatformAoAcOverride set to 0 tells Windows not to use it, and the PC falls back to classic S3 sleep where the firmware supports that. In the registry it sets PlatformAoAcOverride to 0 under HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power.

## What it does

Modern Standby keeps a sleeping PC partly awake so it can sync mail and updates, like a phone. PlatformAoAcOverride set to 0 tells Windows not to use it, and the PC falls back to classic S3 sleep where the firmware supports that.
