What it does
WLAN AutoConfig is the service that finds, connects to and manages Wi-Fi networks. While running it scans for networks in the background. This tweak sets WlanSvc to Disabled.
In the app the switch is called "Disable WLAN AutoConfig", described there as: Eliminates periodic Wi-Fi scans/ETW when you play on Ethernet.
When it helps, and when it hurts
When it helps
- PCs on a network cable that also have a Wi-Fi adapter: the periodic scans stop.
When it hurts
- Wi-Fi stops working completely until you switch it back. Do not use it on a PC that connects over Wi-Fi.
- On Wi-Fi, the scan spikes are better fixed in the adapter's driver settings.
