# wisvc: disabling the Windows Insider Service

**Short answer:** wisvc supports the Windows Insider preview program. If the PC is not enrolled, it has nothing to do. This tweak sets it to Disabled. It sets the wisvc service to Disabled.

wisvc supports the Windows Insider preview program. If the PC is not enrolled, it has nothing to do. This tweak sets it to Disabled.

In the app the switch is called "Disable Insider Service", described there as: Shuts down Windows Insider background checks (wisvc).

Run in a Command Prompt opened as administrator. Make a restore point first.

```

Put it back:

sc config "wisvc" start= demand
```
