# Disable SSDP Discovery (SSDPSRV) and UPnP Device Host (upnphost)

**Short answer:** SSDPSRV finds UPnP devices on your network, such as media players and printers, and upnphost lets this PC offer UPnP devices to others. This tweak sets both to Disabled. It sets the SSDPSRV, upnphost services to Disabled.

## What it does

SSDPSRV finds UPnP devices on your network, such as media players and printers, and upnphost lets this PC offer UPnP devices to others. This tweak sets both to Disabled.

In the app the switch is called "Disable UPnP/SSDP", described there as: Stops discovery chatter & multicast traffic (SSDP/UPnP).

## When it helps

- Less multicast discovery traffic on the local network, and a slightly smaller attack surface.

## When it hurts

- Network discovery of media devices and casting can stop working.
- It does not change your router's UPnP port forwarding, which games use for an open NAT. That happens on the router.

## The same change by hand

Run in a Command Prompt opened as administrator. Make a restore point first.

Put it back:

sc config "SSDPSRV" start= demand
sc config "upnphost" start= demand
```

## How to undo it

Switch the tweak off in Frozen Tweaks. It sets SSDPSRV to Manual, upnphost to Manual.
