# StorSvc: what the Windows Storage Service does and whether to disable it

**Short answer:** StorSvc manages storage settings, Storage Sense cleanup and where new apps and content are saved, including for the Microsoft Store and the Xbox app. This tweak sets it to Disabled. It sets the StorSvc service to Disabled.

## What it does

StorSvc manages storage settings, Storage Sense cleanup and where new apps and content are saved, including for the Microsoft Store and the Xbox app. This tweak sets it to Disabled.

In the app the switch is called "Disable Storage Service", described there as: Disables StorSvc to avoid Storage Sense & maintenance IO during play.

- Keeping Storage Sense from cleaning up on its own schedule.

## When it hurts

- Installing or moving Microsoft Store and Xbox app games can fail, and the Storage page in Settings may not load.
- If you use Game Pass, do not disable it.
