# PNRPsvc, p2psvc and p2pimsvc: disabling the Windows peer networking services

**Short answer:** These three services are Windows' peer-to-peer name resolution and grouping stack, used by features such as the old HomeGroup. This tweak sets them to Disabled. It sets the PNRPsvc, p2psvc, p2pimsvc services to Disabled.

## In the app

- Switch: Disable Peer Services (PNRP/P2P) (Network, Pro, Advanced)
- Undo: Yes. Switching it off sets a standard Windows value, which may not be exactly how you had it.
- Catalog row: https://frozentweaks.com/tweaks#t-1098

## What it does

These three services are Windows' peer-to-peer name resolution and grouping stack, used by features such as the old HomeGroup. This tweak sets them to Disabled.

In the app the switch is called "Disable Peer Services (PNRP/P2P)", described there as: Eliminates peer name resolution and P2P services chatter.

## When it helps

- Removing services that modern Windows features no longer use.

## When it hurts

- A few older peer-to-peer features and apps that depended on PNRP stop working.

## What it writes

Read from the app's source. "Switching it off" is what the app writes when you turn the tweak off again.

Services (startup type):

| Service | With the tweak | Switching it off |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `PNRPsvc` (Peer Name Resolution Protocol) | Disabled | Manual |
| `p2psvc` (Peer Networking Grouping) | Disabled | Manual |
| `p2pimsvc` (Peer Networking Identity Manager) | Disabled | Manual |

## The same change by hand

Run in a Command Prompt opened as administrator. Make a restore point first.

```bat
sc config "PNRPsvc" start= disabled
sc config "p2psvc" start= disabled
sc config "p2pimsvc" start= disabled
```

Put it back:

```bat
sc config "PNRPsvc" start= demand
sc config "p2psvc" start= demand
sc config "p2pimsvc" start= demand
```

## How to undo it

Switch the tweak off in Frozen Tweaks. It sets PNRPsvc to Manual, p2psvc to Manual, p2pimsvc to Manual.

## Verdict
