# CscService: disabling the Offline Files service

**Short answer:** Offline Files keeps local copies of network share files so you can work without the network, and syncs them later. This tweak sets CscService to Disabled. It sets the CscService service to Disabled.

## What it does

Offline Files keeps local copies of network share files so you can work without the network, and syncs them later. This tweak sets CscService to Disabled.

In the app the switch is called "Disable Offline Files", described there as: Turns off CSC to remove SMB sync filters and background scans.

- Home PCs, which almost never use Offline Files.

- Work laptops with redirected folders or 'always available offline' network files lose that feature.

Run in a Command Prompt opened as administrator. Make a restore point first.

Put it back:

```
