# Disable clipboard history and cloud clipboard (cbdhsvc) in Windows

**Short answer:** Clipboard history (Win + V) keeps the last items you copied, and cloud clipboard syncs them to your other devices. This tweak turns both off and disables the clipboard user service behind them. In the registry it sets EnableClipboardHistory to 0 under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Clipboard, and 1 more value.

## In the app

- Switch: Disable Cloud Clipboard (Debloat, Free, Standard)
- Undo: Yes. Switching it off removes the two clipboard values, which is how Windows ships, and sets the Clipboard User Service to Manual.
- Catalog row: https://frozentweaks.com/tweaks#t-1049

## What it does

Clipboard history (Win + V) keeps the last items you copied, and cloud clipboard syncs them to your other devices. This tweak turns both off and disables the clipboard user service behind them.

In the app the switch is called "Disable Cloud Clipboard", described there as: Disables clipboard history/sync and clipSvc to remove background scans.

## When it helps

- Privacy: copied passwords and text are no longer stored or uploaded.

## When it hurts

- Win + V no longer shows a history, and copying on one device no longer pastes on another.

## What it writes

Read from the app's source. "Switching it off" is what the app writes when you turn the tweak off again.

Registry values:

| Key | Value | With the tweak | Switching it off |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Clipboard` | `EnableClipboardHistory` | `0` | Not set (the value is deleted; Windows decides) |
| `HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Clipboard` | `EnableCloudClipboard` | `0` | Not set (the value is deleted; Windows decides) |

Services (startup type):

| Service | With the tweak | Switching it off |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `cbdhsvc` (Clipboard User Service) | Disabled | Manual |

## The same change by hand

Run in a Command Prompt opened as administrator. Make a restore point first.

```bat
reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Clipboard" /v "EnableClipboardHistory" /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Clipboard" /v "EnableCloudClipboard" /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
sc config "cbdhsvc" start= disabled
```

Put it back:

```bat
reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Clipboard" /v "EnableClipboardHistory" /f
reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Clipboard" /v "EnableCloudClipboard" /f
sc config "cbdhsvc" start= demand
```

See what it is set to now:

```bat
reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Clipboard" /v "EnableClipboardHistory"
```

## How to undo it

Switch the tweak off in Frozen Tweaks. It deletes EnableClipboardHistory, EnableCloudClipboard, so Windows uses its built-in behavior again. It sets cbdhsvc to Manual.

## Verdict

A privacy choice. If you use Win + V, keep it.
