# AppXSvc high CPU or disk: what the AppX Deployment Service does, and disabling it

**Short answer:** AppXSvc installs, updates and registers Store apps. It often shows high disk or processor use after sign-in while it updates apps. This tweak sets it to Disabled. It sets the AppXSvc service to Disabled.

## In the app

- Switch: Disable AppX Deployment (Debloat, Pro, Advanced)
- Undo: Yes. Switching it off sets a standard Windows value, which may not be exactly how you had it.
- Catalog row: https://frozentweaks.com/tweaks#t-1063

## What it does

## When it helps

- Stopping app updates and registration work from starting during a session.

## When it hurts

- Microsoft Store apps, Xbox app games and many built-in apps cannot install, update or sometimes even start.
- Windows starts this service on demand, and some Windows versions reset it.

## What it writes

Read from the app's source. "Switching it off" is what the app writes when you turn the tweak off again.

Services (startup type):

| Service | With the tweak | Switching it off |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `AppXSvc` (AppX Deployment Service (AppXSVC)) | Disabled | Manual |

Source: Tweaks/appxsvc_off.hpp in the app's source, app 2.0.0, checked 2026-10-08.

## The same change by hand

Run in a Command Prompt opened as administrator. Make a restore point first.

```bat
sc config "AppXSvc" start= disabled
```

Put it back:

```bat
sc config "AppXSvc" start= demand
```

## How to undo it
